More About Me

  • Heroes: My dad, my daughter and her dad- my better half!! Who else? Weston Price, Sally Fallon... Jane Sheppard.... All the men and women who pledged -past, present and future- their lives to protect our country!
  • Interests: Mostly, since I'm a Mom my activities center around my daughter. I also share an ebay store with my Dad who is my best friend in the whole world. It keeps us busy. I raise pastured chickens for meat and eggs, too. We love yard sales and festivals and anything that gets you outdoors and in the sunshine and around people but it's nice to come home to our little corner of the world and enjoy each other and the wilderness. My interests include: Homesteading, living naturally, unschooling, stargazing, horses, raising pastured chickens, playing in the sandbox, cooking weston a price type meals, researching about vaccines, sustainable living, homeopathy.. Music

  • Favorite Artists: My daughter's laughter is the most welcomed sound to my ears, comes next is the gentle chirping of frogs at dusk, then I'd say HipHop, Old time Country, Pop, Bluegrass, Heavy Metal, Polka, Blues.... Just depends on how I'm feeling at the moment. Sometimes I just want utter silence.

Food

  • Favorite Cuisine: The biggest thing people will find interesting (some would say odd!) about me is I'm very health conscious. I have been so ever since my daughter was born. That's a story for another day. We don't vaccinate and don't use otc or Rx drugs unless absolutely neccessary, we don't even have a microwave in the house. We avoid in our daily lives as much as possible any synthetic chemicals, plastics, and a number of other things that most people just don't realize (or just don't care) are really quite detrimental to your health. We're not vegetarian by any means, though. We follow as closely as possible the dietary guidelines outlined in Nourishing Traditions or on www.westonaprice.org. I have MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity)which makes it tough to be around crowds or even go to stores but I do anyway and come home and drink a big glass of kombucha, which helps detox and energize.
  • Foods I hate: packaged, refined, Standard American Diet crapola!!

Movies

  • Favorite Movies: Gone With The Wind, What Dreams May Come, The Notebook, Payback, Wizard of Oz... I hardly ever finish a movie 'cause I usually get interested in a good book or two.
  • Favorite Soundtracks: Dirty Dancing

Television

  • Favorite Shows: Are usually watched while reading a book! I like Burn Notice, Leverage, Stuff Happens, Cosmos, anything on the science or nat geo channels. I really hate commercials. They are an insult to our intelligence. Do you really throw open the door to your apartment and throw yourself down on the floor and sniff it vigorously? Hell, no! I really really really hate all the pharmaceutical commercials and the vaccination commercials. And the ones that say Eat Less Fat for the sake of your heart. What they're really saying is eat more processed crap food for the sake of our pocketbooks. People everywhere need to start thinking for themselves. Stop taking the doctor's word for it, or the tv ad or the newspaper's word for it. QUESTION EVERYTHING! Especially in regards to your health. If it's "the norm" question it threefold. Research things and make your own decisions.
  • Favorite Reruns: Little House on the Prairie, Frasier....
  • Most Addictive Show: Burn Notice!!
  • Show I Secretly Watch: America's Next Top Model
  • Show I wished wasn't cancelled: Moonlight

Books

  • Favorite Books: Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon, Fourfold path to Healing by Tom Cowan, Great Expectations by Dickens- of course, anything by Alfie Kohn or John Holt... way too many to list- most of them have indices!
  • Favorite Quotes: No one has yet realized the wealth of sympathy, the kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure. -Emma Goldman "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul And sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all."Dickinson "It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to." W.C. Fields "With each of the thousand-and-one problems that present themselves in family life, our choice is between controlling and teaching, between creating an atmosphere of distrust and one of trust, between setting an example of power and helping children to learn responsibility, between quick-fix parenting and the kind that's focused on long-term goals." Alphie kohn "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."Fred Rogers "When you make the finding yourself - even if you're the last person on Earth to see the light - you'll never forget it."Carl Sagan "If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man's life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility." - Longfellow "The opposite of a correct statement is a falsestatement. The opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth." Bohr "Don't let school interfere with your education." Twain "Education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a fire." Yeats It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." Darwin "A foolish faith in authority is the worst enemy of truth." Einstein "The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself." and "On the mountains of truth you can never climb in vain: either you will reach a point higher up today, or you will be training your powers so that you will be able to climb higher tomorrow." - Nietzsche "Computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image." Hawking "I strive to listen with my own ears, see with my own eyes, feel with my own heart and think with my own mind. When I draw close to doing these things, I know I approach living and its then that I truly feel free. I wouldn't trade that feeling for 10 big screen tv's with the best show playing ever. Nor would I trade it for a million peers' approval." Brandon "We teach people how to remember, we never teach them how to grow" Wilde "What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset" Crowfoot
